About Dr. John Finnick
Dr. John Finnick, PsyD, LEP, is a licensed educational psychologist with over thirty years of clinical experience in neurofeedback. He founded Tahoe Neurofeedback to provide high-quality, individualized brain training and psychological services to children, adolescents, adults, and families in the North Lake Tahoe and greater Tahoe Truckee region.
With more than a decade of experience as a neurofeedback trainer and consultant, Dr. Finnick has taught and supported clinicians across a variety of platforms and systems, including EEGer and others. He has presented and taught both domestically throughout the United States and internationally, including in South Africa. His teaching emphasizes practical, ethical, and effective application of neurofeedback in real-world clinical settings.
Dr. Finnick's career in education and mental health is extensive. He has worked as a school psychologist in the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District and more than thirty additional school districts across California. In these roles, he conducted comprehensive psychoeducational assessments and supported students with diverse learning and behavioral needs. He also served as both principal and psychologist for Milhous, a residential group home program serving children and adolescents with significant emotional and behavioral challenges, including many in the foster care system.
For over 15 years, Dr. Finnick collaborated closely with a psychiatrist and psychiatric clinic specializing in forensic, adolescent, child, and adult psychiatry. Together they developed integrated treatment approaches for complex cases, with a strong focus on supporting foster youth and their families. This long-term partnership allowed for deep, multidisciplinary work combining neurofeedback, psychological assessment, and psychiatric care.
In addition to his clinical and school-based work, Dr. Finnick holds a lifetime community college teaching credential and has taught at the college level. He maintains a private consulting practice offering clinical consultation, program development support, and professional training.
Dr. Finnick is currently a Board Member of the Foundation for Neurofeedback and Applied Neuroscience, where he contributes to advancing the field through education, research support, and ethical standards. His approach to neurofeedback is grounded in science, informed by decades of hands-on clinical experience, and guided by genuine care for each client's unique journey toward better brain regulation, emotional balance, and overall well-being.
